Project Overview
The
Burj Khalifa, a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With a total height
of 829.8 m (2,722 ft) and a roof height (excluding antenna) of 828 m (2,717
ft), the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure and building in the world
since its topping out in 2009 (Wikipedia, 2019).
Burj
Khalifa was designed to be the centerpiece of a large-scale, mixed-use
development to include 30,000 homes, nine hotels, 7.4 acres of parkland, at
least 19 residential skyscrapers, the Dubai Mall, and the 30-acre artificial
Burj Khalifa Lake (Wikipedia, 2019).
Processes
1.
The first step to start this project is to get the floor plan of Burj Khalifa.
The one I choose was from internet, which contains basic components at ground
level as well as regional function division.
2.
In order to get clear lines that enables us to utilize in Revit Conceptual Mass
accurately, the AutoCAD process is indispensable for this study. Because lines
in the picture above appear very blurry when we import in Conceptual Mass
family, AutoCAD should be first implemented to depicting lines and scale the
size of the ground level.
3.
Next step is to import the .Dwg file in to Revit Conceptual Mass with clear
lines, and then use Reference Line, pick up a line function, to draw the
entire base of Burj Khalifa. Moreover, the angle parameters were assigned in
this process via Split Tool.
4.
After some detail adjustments by using Trim and Split, extrusion
is a good way to create the base form of the building.
5.
Height parameters were assigned at each stage of the extrusion, and all were
controlled by a scale parameter named: S_Height.
6.
Repeat extrusions according to a certain rule will result in the final version
of the conceptual mass.
Project Envelope
The
envelope family was created following the original design of Burj Khalifa, the
thickness of the glass is parametric driven as well.
Equations
The intend of this parametric building is with
variable height and changeable angle.
1. Height: S_Height × 60m.
2. Angle: S_Angle × default angle
